A doll with a beautifully painted face or delicate factory makeup requires special handling during storage. The face is the most expressive part of the doll, and a single smudge or scratch can be devastating. The primary rule is simple: the face must not touch anything.

When preparing the doll for storage, keep renewal powder away from the face, as it can be abrasive and dull the finish. The main challenge is positioning. When laying the doll flat, you must elevate the head so that the face is not pressing against the storage surface. You can achieve this by placing a small, rolled-up towel or a dedicated neck-support pillow under the doll’s neck. This creates a gap, leaving the face suspended and safe from contact.

For maximum protection, a dedicated face protector is ideal. Some dolls come with a clear, rigid plastic mask for this purpose. If yours did not, you can gently drape a new, clean microfiber cloth over the face, but be aware that this still involves contact. The “no-contact” method of elevating the head is superior. By ensuring nothing rubs against or presses on the painted features, you can keep your doll’s face flawless for years.
